This week was filled with the excitement of Valentine's Day and was also my first full week at Ruth King.
We began by talking about what we need our class to look like so we can learn. We came up with an acronym for LEARN to help us remember these things.

In addition to these things we are training our brains to look out for our friends and spot the good deeds that they do for one another. These treasures we spot are put in our good deed jar where we can look back on them at the end of the week.
In language arts we began writing stories that celebrate friendship. Everyone is doing an excellent job using all the components of a story and adding details to make their stories stand out to their readers. I am looking forward to hearing some of them on Monday!
We started exploring fractions in math these week. So far we can identify equal parts and describe fractions of a whole using words like 3 thirds or a whole. Here's a few more of the math words we have learned. Ask your child to show you what they mean by drawing a picture!
Everyone is VERY excited to be working towards their junior astronomers badges in science. Outer space is so big and full of so many interesting objects to explore! We have a lot of questions we would like to explore over the next few weeks!

On a more creative note in PE we are learning different components of creative dance. So far we have taken on the character of aliens exploring a newly found, spacious planet. We are working on pathways, body shapes, and moving to a beat. We will be wrapping up our alien dances this week with a mini performance for our classmates. I wonder what will be next!
To end the week we had a special guest, Mr. Duchene (Phil) come from the University of Victoria to teach us about drama and using puppets. He will be visiting in our class over the next couple weeks as Ms. Hill's supervisor to see what we do as a class and what I do as a teacher. Ask your child to show you how they can make their hand puppet come alive to this muppets song! We really enjoyed our time with Mr. Duchene and will be using puppets again!

I'm looking forward to another great week in grade 3 this week!
